Graphic Novel workshop in Umbria
with Paul Karasik
August 22—30, 2016

Got an idea for a graphic novel that is stalled and needs a jump start? Maybe what you need is a chance to get away and recharge the creative battery. Come to Italy for a week and let internationally renowned cartoonist and educator, Paul Karasik, give you that jolt you need in an inspirational setting far away from distractions.

Paul Karasik is a cartoonist (The New YorkerCity of Glass), a comics scholar (I Shall Destroy All The Civilized PlanetsHow To Read Nancy), and accomplished teacher who really knows how to take good cartoonists and make them better. Come with an idea for a graphic novel and you will leave with that idea fleshed out and secure.

Oh yeah, the Italy part: Why Italy? WHY NOT? Italy is the birthplace of Western Narrative Art, the central topic of the tour.  Visit hill towns like Assisi, Perugia, Montefalco, and Orvieto and uncover the tricks of Renaissance “cartoonists” like Giotto, Perugino, Pinturicchio, and Signorelli.  And you’ll enjoy extraordinary food and wine, and spectacular views all along the way.aWeekinUmbria.com tours typically are 8 days, which gives participants just a little more time to get settled in, be less rushed, and take in more of what Umbria has to offer. We also like to limit the tour to no more than 10 people so each participant receives the attention they deserve.

Workshop package includes 5 workshop sessions with Paul Karasik, lectures, one-on-one conferencing, group crits, accommodations at Palazzo Fiumi-LaPlaca in Bettona, guided tours, most meals (there might be one lunch out on your own), pick up and return to airport (to meet one flight each way). Tour will accept up to 10 people.  Airfare is NOT included.
